Standard Belt Splices

Longline (or finger splice)

An improved form of the butt splice is the finger splice. V-butt splice or in 'bisca-speak', Longline splice in which there is no longer a straight line of weakness. In thick materials it is possible to make this splice without a reinforcing strip, as its strength increases with total cross section of the bond area: (length of bond line) x (thickness of base material). A number of different reinforcing materials, such as films, fibre reinforced films and PTFE-glass, are used for both simple Butt and Longline splices. Achieving the necessary strength while keeping the splice as thin as possible can be difficult. The type and size of re-inforcing strip is chosen to match the belt fabric, size of belt and intended application.
